スクエアの古参ＣＴＯボブ・リーが退社へ

スクエアの古参であるチーフ・テクノロジ・オフィサーのボブ・リーは、２０１０年にグーグルより同社へ加入したが、このたび退社する。
当初スクエアのアンドロイド・アプリの開発のため加入したリーは、２０１１年ＣＴＯへ昇進した。
「ボブは社員番号１３で、４年近くにわたり弊社のインフラストラクチャの構築と維持に携わり、ほんのわずかなベータ版利用業者だけだった当時から、数百万人の顧客をもつ企業へと育て上げました」と、スクエアのスポークスウーマンのコビ・ブルックリンはイーメールによる声明で述べた。「われわれはボブが貢献してきたすべてのことに感謝し、彼の今後の挑戦における活躍を願っております」
同社はリーの後任となるＣＴＯの任命を予定していないとブルックリンは述べた。とはいえ、同社は最近古くから定評あるテクニカル・リーダー、アリサ・ヘンリーを加入させており、彼女は４月にアマゾンからスクエアへエンジニアリング長として移籍した。
今夜スクエアの社員たちはリーの退社を告げる姿の写真をツイッターに投稿した。ここに載せるのは、リーとＣＥＯジャック・ドーシイのほか数名が黒の服装で撮影された「ダーク・スクエア・グッバイ」と称する写真だ。

Square’schief technical officer Bob Lee,who joined the company in 2010 from Google,is leaving the company.

Originally hired to work on the company’s Android app,Lee was promoted to CTO in 2011.

“Bobwas our 13th employee,and over the past four years he helped establish and expand our infrastructure as we grew from ahandful of beta merchants into a company that supports millions of customers,” Square spokeswoman KhobiBrooklyn said in an email statement.“We’re grateful to Bobfor all he’s done and we wish him the best in his next adventure.”

The company has no plansto hire a new CTO, according to Brooklyn. That said,the company recently added a well-regarded senior technical leader Alyssa Henry,who joined Square from Amazon in April to take the role of engineering lead.

Several Square employees posted photos of Lee’sgoing-away party on Twitter this evening. Here’s one, labeled as “a dark Square goodbye,”in which Lee,CEO Jack Dorsey,and a few others are dressed in black.
