As we all know, Google didn't end up winning that beachfront C-block spectrum. But don't start feeling bad for the company.

Not bad, when you consider Google didn't pay a cent to do it (well, other than lobbying fees).

I would wager Google's also happy about the fact that its new mobile OS and services will have yet another relatively open network to operate on.

Remember what Google has achieved so far: The company successfully pushed an open access agenda with FCC Chairman Kevin Martin. Then, somewhere along the way, it convinced a company that ran from openness like a vampire from sunlight that it being a little loose with its network wasn't the end of the world. Now, Google's Android phones, which are supposed to start popping up later this year, have another potential home on Verizon's newly open (by law) network.
