We must ensure that risk takers are not protected against material losses, but that the economy as a whole is de-risked. The dilution of American International Group (nyse: AIG - news - people ) equity holders and the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers (nyse: LEH - news - people ) will serve as good examples. But beyond these short-term actions, we must learn some permanent lessons to prevent recurrence.
